Organize Your Kitchen – How to effciently enhance storage (P2)

I have some more ideas to optimize your kitchen. It is natural if you want to have a variety of kitchenware in your kitchen. As I wrote in the previous article “Easy to follow kitchen magagement guide” , even the new chefs also need to organize their kitchen. But if we want to accommodate so many things in our kitchen, we should know how to plan its storage for maximum efficiency. So let’s move on and plan about some storage maximizing ideas.

How to effciently enhance storage

Determine the earlier setting of your kitchen.

Everyone set their kitchen in a different way. You might have some extra space in your kitchen where you can get some new construction made. There might be some space with the wall where you can get a new cabinet constructed without making your kitchen look congested. Thus you have to look at every segment of your kitchen and determine its function in order to take decision about new constructions.

On the other hand, if you do not have space for some new construction, you can first put all your important kitchenware into the cabinets and drawers and then figure out the space that is left for everyday spices, cutlery and wine bottles. This gives you a better idea about dealing with such numerous small items.

You can also get a stove fixed in your kitchen instead of a cooking range so that the space under the stove can be utilized to construct drawers under it. These drawers can be utilized to put everyday spices in them and all those things which are frequently used during cooking. This saves a lot of time and also gives a fixed place to these small items. Also look how much space it can provide you. You can also put in cutlery or silverware but its best to put silverware in those drawers which are near the sink.

Arrangement of the items is really important. If you randomly put away things in the drawers, you will not only face difficulty taking them out next time but also forget where you had placed a particular thing after use last time. It will also give a messy look when you open your drawer in front of some guests. So it is really important to make the inside of the drawer equally organized.

Choosing between cabinets and drawers.

We all have both cabinets and drawers in our kitchen. Which one should be given priority while constructing a new kitchen? Should there be more cabinets or drawers? These are the questions which often come into mind.

If we compare them both, drawers are expensive as compared to the cabinets because you need to get ball bearings fixed underneath them for ease of use. But even if they are expensive, they give you more benefits too. Deep and wide drawers accommodate more things as compared to the cabinet of the same size.

But here, some benefits of the cabinet cannot be ignored too. Look at the image below. Can you get some drawers constructed at the place of the cabinet which are above the stove? You will definitely need a stool or chair every time you want to take things out! That would really make it difficult for you to reach different items placed in there.

Therefore, always get the things at the right place either they are the silverware or spices, or even the cabinets or drawers!

Enhancing storage and space together

If you want to eliminate some storage space, for instance the upper cabinets, your kitchen will look wider and visually open. The storage space that gets removed by removing cabinets can be adjusted with the help of drawers. You can get that type of drawers constructed in your kitchen which have some inner roll out storage spaces like the one shown in the images above. Thus you will get enough storage plus an open feel because all the space in the kitchen at the line of your sight gets cleared and you can see some beautifully painted walls of your choice. Enjoy the good feeling!

Removing the cabinets is not the only way that can help you increase free space. You can play with the counter and the drawer heights too. Have a look at the central portion in the image above. You can get drawers constructed here. The same space which was idle earlier can be brought into use this way.

Even if you have a small kitchen, windows can give it an open and airy look. So if any of the walls in your kitchen is spare, get some windows built into it. If you are lucky enough to have some scenery outside the window then I think your cooking will become more fun.
